Details :

Gp Capt ON Sharma was commissioned on 01 Jun 62. He took over the appointment of Deputy Director Signal Intelligence on 04 Jul 88.

In his twenty nine years of dedicated and unblemished service, Gp Capt Sharma has held various staff and unit appointments with distinction. This includes command of a Radar Unit during 1971 War, a Wireless Experimental Unit in Western Sector and staff appointments with RCPO and as CSO (Air), Western Air Command.

He was also instrumental in finalising a number of long outstanding work services projects of units under his operational and administrative control.

On the operational side, Gp Capt Sharma carried out map studies and organised ground reconnaissance. He affected liaison and arranged air lifting of equipment from different Air Force units and Army units and used his imagination and expertise to direct trials on the ground. He evolved a system design based on interfacing of mobile tropo 15 feet dish antenna having capability of changing the tilt and azimuth, with versatile receivers and spectrum analysers.

This has been solely possible due to relentless effort hard work and motivation of Gp Capt Sharma.

For his sustained and selfless hard work with utmost devotion and dedication, the President is pleased to award Vishisht Seva Medal to Gp Capt ON Sharma.
